About Us

Who We Are

ABLE is fully staffed and led by young professionals currently working in Boston across a variety of consulting, law and investment firms. The non-profit serves as a great way for young professionals to give back to the local Boston community by sharing their own academic journeys navigating the high school and collegiate experiences. Each ABLE mentor is paired with a high school mentee and often also serves on one of three ABLE committees - the recruitment, engagement and finance committees. Upon joining, every mentor also makes a commitment to donate $2k+ annually to the program, which we view as emblematic of the deep commitment to the program shared by each of our mentors.

How ABLE Works

ABLE partners with select middle schools to identify these students who would benefit from a high-expectations high school education and a dedicated and involved mentor. Prospective students are screened through an application process and collaborative discussions with school administrators to ensure that ABLE’s resources are allocated to those most in need. Upon selection, ABLE provides customized financial aid packages and pairs students with a committed mentor who supports a student throughout his or her high school career. Mentors serve as role models and academic coaches stressing the importance for students to graduate from high school and go on to a 4-year college.

Partner High Schools

ABLE partners with 4 high schools throughout Boston, including: BC High, Cathedral, Catholic Memorial and Matignon. Click on the school links below to learn more about each one.

Our Operating Model: Built on Success

ABLE is modeled after Student Sponsor Partners (SSP), a New York City based program that currently provides financial support and academic mentoring to over 1,200 at-risk students. ABLE was founded in 2008 and currently serves over 20 students in 4 partner schools.

Since its founding in 2008, ABLE has graduated numerous students from high school.  Over 90% of these students have gone on to a 4-year college. Universities that past ABLE scholars have attended include Regis College, Williams College, Boston College, Northeastern University, New York University, Providence College, UMass-Boston, UMass-Amherst, Barry University and Massachusetts College of Pharmacy.
